5 Benefits of having a home gym

If you currently work with a PT once or twice a week, but you don’t have a home gym, you might be missing out on some great benefits! While we know that working with a Trainer gives you a massive head start on the road towards your fitness goals, we also know that most of the time, you need to be doing some extra training in between sessions as well.

Your trainer will most likely give you some homework to do, whether that is some cardio, extra weight training, intervals, core strengthening, stretching or something else – specifically to help you speed up the journey to reaching your fitness goals.

Benefits

If you have a few simple pieces of equipment at home you can enjoy the following benefits:

  1. Time and convenience –Let’s face it, if it’s not quick and convenient, it’s not likely to happen! If you have the gear you need in your own garage/lounge room and you can train while you watch your favourite TV show, you’re much more likely to get your sessions done each week. Even if you only have a small 15-minute window available, you can squeeze in a quick session with no time wasted travelling to and from a gym or a park or wherever else.
  2. Lose the excuses –if the workout is in your own home, many of the excuses to skip the workout are no longer valid.
    1. It’s too hot
    2. It’s too cold
    3. It’s too late
    4. It’s raining
    5. Too much traffic
    6. The kids are in bed
    7. I don’t have a babysitter
    8. I don’t want to miss my favourite TV show
  3. Privacy –Working out in a public gym or at a park can make you feel self-conscious, especially if you’re new to exercise or not happy with your current fitness level. Putting the equipment in your home puts you in a comfortable and familiar setting, so you can concentrate on your workout not worry about what anyone else thinks.
  4. Freedom to do what you like –if you’re in the comfort of your own home you have the luxury of choosing the temperature, the TV channel, the music, when and where you warm up, stretch and train. You don’t have to worry about “working in” with other gym members on your favourite equipment, the 15-minute limit on the treadmill, or sharing the stinky, sweaty mats in the stretch area.
  5. Cost effective –although it might seem counterintuitive, buying the equipment and keeping it at home will actually cost you less than a gym membership in the long run, especially if you plan to keep using it for a long time. Plus you have the added benefit of all you family members and friends can come and use the equipment any time with no additional membership costs!
